To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Comix Home Base, the Hong Kong Arts Centre will hold the 'Comix Arts Festival 2025' from 22 July to 31 August 2025, presenting a festival of illustrated artworks, comics art, pop culture and cross-media creations to the public.
Over 60 Local Comic Artists and Illustrators Gather to Showcase Hand-drawn Works, Displaying Irreplaceable Warmth and Infectivity
From 22 July to 31 August 2025, the Jockey Club Gallery from the Centre's ground floor to the fourth floor, as well as the Chantal Miller Gallery on the third floor, will host Hong Kong's first art fair dedicated to local comics and illustrations, featuring more than 60 comic artists and illustrators. Through traditional media such as pencils and ink, the artists will showcase their original hand-drawn comic artworks in an era dominated by artificial intelligence and computer editing. The artists will convey sincere emotions through their brushstrokes, evoking intergenerational resonance and bringing irreplaceable infectivity and warmth to the audience. Comic and illustration enthusiasts can also purchase their favourite artworks on display to add to their personal collections! 27 invited creators will join over 30 outstanding creators selected through an open call, presenting more than 150 hand-drawn works. The exhibition will feature classic works by master artists, as well as creations by emerging artists and students, filled with humour, memories and dreams. It will bear witness to the evolution and diverse facets of Hong Kong's hand-drawn art scene and reaffirm the mission of the Comix Home Base in nurturing talents and promoting comics art. To document this grand event, the organiser will publish a special publication titled 'Origin: Comics/Illustrations Art Fair', featuring multiple hand-drawn works by the 60 participating artists, which will be available for sale in limited quantities during the exhibition period.
Launch of Limited-edition Figurines to Extend the Charm of Comics to the Community
The 'Comix Arts Festival 2025' will also launch limited-edition figurines of five star-studded exhibiting creators, allowing their fascinating characters to meet the public in a brand-new style. These include Mok Gei Gei by Lai Tat-tat Wing, Old Girl by Stella So, Twins by Li Chi-tak, Eyebag Girl by Isatisse and Fatina by Prudence Mak. The figurines will be sold in surprise blind boxes (HK$138 each). During the event, the five limited-edition figurines will be enlarged and displayed in different corners of the venue, allowing the public to appreciate the creators' hard work up close.
Limited-edition Mini Finger Skateboards for On-site Interactive Battles
The organiser will also launch a series of comics-related merchandise, including pins, T-shirts, eco-bags, gashapon and more. One of the most eye-catching items is the mini finger skateboard. Artist Ho Chi-kwan was invited to hand-paint colourful and captivating patterns on the on-site imitation skateboard ramp installation. The public can purchase the mini finger skateboards and try them out on this unique ramp, interacting and battling with fellow enthusiasts, embodying the playful spirit of art.
